Accepting Applications for Grafton Town Highway Crew Members: Conditions are as follows.

Conditions:

  • One year of experience in the operation of specialized or heavy equipment or two years of experience in the operation of lighter automotive equipment.

  • Eligibility for a appropriate NYS Driver's License. Possession of license at time of hire and must maintain the license throughout the term of employment.

  • Must possess or have a CDL Permit within 3 months of hire and a CDL License with a year of hire. (CDL License is preferred)

  • Must have good knowledge of the operation and Maintenance of variety of heavy automotive equipment ability to service and make minor repairs and adjustment to equipment, ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, mechanical aptitude, dependability, good physical condition.

Duties:

  • Operates one or more types of specialized heavy automotive equipment and performs a variety of manual tasks in connection with such operations.

  • Operates power shovels, bulldozers, power grader, crane, bucket loader, roller and other types of heavy equipment in the construction and maintenance of highways and drainage lines.

  • Operates heavy snow plows in the clearing of roads.

  • Operates heavy equipment in connection with cutting banks, cutting and filling ditches, removing stumps, stripping gravel pits, and related tasks.

  • Performs semi-skilled maintenance and repair work on assigned equipment.

  • Loads and unloads vehicles.

  • Participating in a variety of simple manual tasks such as cleaning culverts, shoveling snow, painting and road maintenance work.

  • May perform miscellaneous tasks in shop or field during off-seasons.
